Hello
Can I replace k40eh5 igbt with fga40n65smd?
Please advice
It's charging circuit in UPS, have 2 IGBTs with gate driver, one of them got shorted
Can you just equivelant or tell if I can use the above part number?
Regards

Yeah, you can use the FGA40N65SMD as a replacement for the K40EH5 in most cases. Both are 40A, 650V IGBTs, but check the gate charge and switching characteristics to be sure it won’t cause issues with your UPS circuit. If the driver can handle it, you should be fine.

I would advise some caution, as austinmariam points out, as gate charge significantly
different.

Even the thermals and SOA different.

Consider using a DSO and capturing switching performance at Gate, Collector, and Emitter
if not grounded. Good old device to compare against substitute.

It's faster than 40n65 smd and I worry

How about gw80h65dfb?
Or 75n65fl2? Or 75g60hd?
Which one is closer?, and safer to replace?

Why not post at the original part vendor website and get help from their staff,
the experts in their parts and substitutions ? Stop rolling the dice hoping
guesses will suffice ?
