hand gesture device

Hi,

I'm throwing some ideas around for this year's science fair.
I want to build an electronic glove that can be used to detect 3-d hand gestures.
I had a look into using gyroscopes and microaccelerometers but this is looking a little too complicated. I don't plan to go in the imaging direction for now, either.
I've already seen the PowerGlove for Sega's ( early 1990's), which uses ultrasound.

I was wondering if anyone had some other ideas?
Thanks.

EDIT: To be a little more specific, the main obstacle is position detection. The glove will be in a box. Should I use ultrasound, gyro-stuff, or something else?

Re: hand gesture device

Take a look at the P5 glove from Essential Reality.
I believe it's been discontinued, and can be bought
for under $25. ER even offers an SDK for it. Might
be just what you are looking for.
