WHAT WAS THE DESIGHN IF I WAN TO BOOST THE 12 V DC I/P TO O/P 48 V DC..:roll:
 

Since your Output Voltage is HIGHER than your Input Voltage .
You would Basically need a Boost Converter.
Please Refer Fundamentals of SMPS or any such books (Ericksson-Maksimovic OR Ned Mohan)
 

You can try a multi-stage charge-pump also.
