if you had a protocol analizer, you can check it.with a good CRO(may be a storage one), you can check that.you can even use some hardware simulators to check it. or make a hardware and try read and write
it's very easy, just connect the CRO. make your controller to send something. store the activity on CRO
varify the same with the signal timing diagram shown on the EEPROM data sheet. you will understand how things works and where's your fault(if any).
