U have matlab on linux right from MATLAB 5 but i dont think we get cd's generally.
Generally beacuse students dont work on linux .......

But i think matlab supports all platforms.....


Some of the disadvantages of matlab on linux is that the gui is not as good at that in windows due to some java based issues.
