i want to build a ad-hoc system for communication between cars. I plan to use a wireless lan with 802.11b transceiver that can use with microcontroller or processor. Can anyone give me advice about what transceiver is good and cheap?

I have not used any components for WiFi and would like to know if anyone here has done any evaluation of different components on the market.

What will be the distance between cars?
Will they be in the line-of-sight?
