What I mean with 8-bits is related to PIC chip which can supports either 4 bits or 8 bits. You can connect any mode you like to the same LCD. For last replay, I'm limted with some chips that is mean I shouldn't have other than PIC16F84 and that LCD, no more ICs. other question also, does it require special wiring?
This site has simple wiring with 4 bit of data going from PIC16F84 to LCD.
