A Buck converter is a switchmode regulator which generates a lower voltage than it's supply voltage.

A Boost converter works the other way round

And a buck/boost converter generates a lower or higher voltage than the input voltage but
requires two switches

have you considered a sepic design?

anyway,check out the LinearTechnology's
LTC1625
No RSENSE™ Current ModeSynchronous Step-DownSwitching Regulator

In linear's DesignNote 233 a buck/boost convertor is explained with this chip.

Hi,

LM1578A from National Semiconductors can
also work as buck-boost converter.

Sincerely: Zsolt
