hw does the wimax work

To implement a PHY/MAC of WiMAX is a cumbersome piece of work for a graduation project, it needs hundreds of working hours to do so and it needs a large team.
You can reach an optimization by selecting a PHY profile and select only two or three MAC layer message to implement
you'll need first to simulate it using a simulation tool, and then you'll need a programmable device to put the system on "SoC", you can use either DSP or FPGA

i'm a fresh graduate and i was interested in wimax i read a lot about it and i understand ofdm and codes used on it like convolution code and i'm taking WIUMAX course .but unfortunately it wasn't my project but i want to make anything practically in wimax and the last year i read an advertisement of company that needs wimax engineer i wonder what functions can wimax engineer do

to be frank, its highly challenging and difficult and one can say impossible task to take up implementation on and simulation of PHY/WiMax layers as a graduation project.

man, across world thousands of engineers are working on both the layers independently with hundreds of specialists and architects from past 2 yrs and only partial implementation and small percentage of deployment have been achieved.

even implementing basic PHY wimax layer will take nearly 300 to 400 working hours for a team of 4 members with proper training and in-depth knowledge in wireless and digital communications.

i suggest u to look into other projects.

Go ahead with the project. It is good one. As rmreddy says it is difficult, but you don't have to do the entire reciever -- you can do a small part like acquistion or channel estimation or mac thru put .....

Start with OFDM basics.

hi everyone,i'm glad to see some experienced (on PHY layer simulation) users here
maybe u can help me to finish my graduate project ,i'm modeling the PHY Layer of MB-OFDM UWB system in Matlab ,i have managed to build the modulation-demodulation and OFDM parts ,BUT i can't build :convolution encoder (1/3, 3/4 ,5/8) with puncturing and interleaver(1/2) since i haven't got any advanced knowledge and experience on the codding subject.Could u help me to build this blocks in matlab ?i really need some help

depending on which university you study, if it's cambridge or MIT then I see no problem. However if it's 2nd tire universities, then an acceptable HW implementation of Phy/MAC of WiMAX will be a person's PhD, Msc and graduation job all rolled into one. And I would say you can only finish one of the four or five modes..
