Any one can tell me how to use Xilinx ISE 4.2 to do the simulation after synthesis? If there any library needed?
And how to extract the parameters from the result of synthesis?

You need to download one m/o/d/e/l/s/i/m XE version. You can download it from xilinx's website.

It is possible to do a pre systhesis, post translate, post map and post place and route simulation. Is it possible to do a post synthesis simulation??

I have a modus*m SE5.6 version in my computer, is it defferent with XE?

XE version include xilinx's lib. So it can do not only logic simulation but also timing simulation.
