a filterbank consists of both analysis and synthesis part....

look for the type of filter bank needed

then u must have an downsampler in the analysis part and some filters as per ur needs

and an exactly opposite filter to that used in analysis part must be used in the synthesis part along with a upsampler

u have an inbuilt function in matlab which creates a polyphase filter bank.
i dont remember the function name properly.
its dfilt.something
there is a detailed description given in the matlab demos.

how vil decide that hw much filters we require in analysis phase....

you can use Help in the mathlab. FFT is a type of filter banks
