how to tune the radiation pattern and axial ratio

I am trying to design a inset fed corner truncated patch antenna. I am trying to tune the antenna. Whenever i got good axial ratio the radiation pattern is inverted and when i try to make the radiation pattern not inverted, axial ratio get worsened. Please help me. And what exactly does inverted radiation pattern indicate??
