Hi all,

How to test the oscillator frequency accuracy?

If I only have spectrum analyzer, how to test it?

Best Regards!

dear sir,

the following sites and attached files may help you.

Put a merker at max spectrum crest and then make span to zero...

Modern spectrum analyzers are very accurate...

Hi BigBoss,

Could you explain the measurement more because I am a beginner? and whether are we need to test N times and then get the RMS value?

Thanks!

First, a region should be defined which the frequency of oscillation will be in so that this zone will include max and min possible frequency of oscillation.
When you see the spectrum on the analyzer, put a marker on spectrum at maximum level. To do this, you can use "find max" function in marker menu. Then if you set your span, you'll see only straight line with a marker or alternatively you may decrease your span while decreasing "Resolution Bandwidth" since spectrum looks like a "hill" so after that put that marker using "find max" function.

The frequecy that is shown by marker is your exact frequency.

But if you don't use a PLL , you can see that frequency in very different distance, it's quite tough to track the spectrum...

You can use HP VEE software to measure N times automatically. And at last, mean value of the frequency of oscillation can be calculated by either in Excel or directly in HP VEE..

It's not so difficult..:D

Note that : HP VEE is a automation and control program of measurement equipments and their accessories.
