How to test the CD-ROM performance?

I have an old CD rom which does not work very properly.I mean it doesn't read the CDs very well and read the CDs slowly and with difficulty.
What should I do to test it?

You can try changing the belt and clean the lens with IPA immersed cotton ear bud

Try to figure out if there's any software problem, i had once similar problem with my PC and found that a virus was actually interfering with my drive.

Also try using some better quality CD for writing, it helps !!!!!

Be specific what kind of CDROM

I Meant Type, release date, and what CD u used for?

U Might need to update the firmware for the CD.

And It's worth if u mentioned your computer specification (mainboard etc) in order to get GOOD help.

I thinhk Laser Diode of its is too "old" so intensity of light emitted is not strong enough. You should buy a new other!
