How to start robotics if I am a beginner

I did not take robotics in my under grad but I still want to learn how to make simple robotics program. How can I start and what things should I learn to begin with?. i have done c++ and a little bit of Java. I want to make some things that sometimes come across my mind.

start by doing some research
there are several good beginner kits available tat will get you started on
motor control and servo control

I think you have to start robokits using Arduino development board. it is very useful to make robokits device.
In official website of arduino,where avalible sample code to learn in brief and make model accordingly.
Arduino is a platform where get output easily using bradboard,jumper wire, mechenical chasisand some sensors like ultrasonic,IR obstacle.compoindia
