Hi Folks,

We are designing SMPS. There are many traces where more than 5amps current flowing. In some of SMPS boards I looked that the traces were partially masked. Is the partial trace increase the trace strength? If yes could anyone help me how to route that type of trace on PCB? Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Re: SMPS Traces....

Hi,

There are many articles and calculators available in the internet, google search.
,for 5 amps.

Actually, partial and full unmasking the trace is to drop the current, usually, they unmask the trace and pour lead with required copper wire embedded on it,by doing this you can bring down the current by increasing the resistance there, but then it requires good practise to calculate the wire gauge of the wire and copper trace thickness, trial and error method to be followed here.

Anyway, check out this site,it may help you to great extent..
