How to quantize a number for DSP filter implement ?

Thanks.

The numbers are automatically quantized in some way when you try to use them. Even if you use PI on your calculator it is quantized!

Serious now : for a 12 bit implementation, the quantization happens when you try to grab the signal with a 12 bit AD converter. If you however want to use only 8 bits, you chunk off 4 extra bits with a right shift operation.
