any idea on how to make an oil level monitor for a car?

oil level meter

you can use the oil as a conductor between two wires and when the oil level is low the contact breaks. u can use several levels using this idea.

Re: oil level meter

You can replace the manual dip stick with one with a ring that floats on the oil. The ring can have magnets in it and you have hall effect sensors on the new dip stick.

Alternately, you can have two parallel plates to form a capacitor. Measure the capacitance which will change with the oil dielectric level.

can methods above withstand high temp?

Re: oil level meter

The capacitor method probably can. The magnetic one will probably not.

One problem with your idea is government regulations about safety and polution. It may not be legal in your country to make such a modification to the engine.

Re: oil level meter

Usually the oil pressure is monitored in engines rather than oil level. Simple manometer will do the job.

hi
use the part that used in car for full indicators.
alway it is a Potentiometer.
