Sound Generation

Does anyone know how to generate sounds electronically? There used to be a chip SN76477 which was a programmable sound IC and it worked very well. This is now obsolete. What is the best and cheapest way to do this. Sounds required eg. car, train, boat etc.

Re: Sound Generation

As mentioned in previous post, try reading the datasheet and app notes where you would gain most information and in some cases, you can copy the exact schematic for your application.

Re: Sound Generation

the answer is not easy...the sn76477 was,in fact,a simple analog synth on a chip...it had a vco(voltage controlled oscillator),a noise generator ,envelope generator and vca(voltage controlled amplifier)...all of those blocks can be discretelly built, but it can get really complex...do a search in google for modular synthesizer schematics and you'll see...
