How to find out orientation in sobel edge detection?

Hi friends !!!!!

can anyone say how to find out oirentation in sobel edge detection?

i know the formula.i don't know how to apply the formula for the cancer cell images

i am using 8 connectivity method for edge detection.can any one say how to apply this orientation? i have applied .but i didn't get the answer

You can find it in matlab image processing toolbox
The way of orientation has beed described in matlab help and demo.
