hai all,
can any one help me on trignomentry. i have a chord passing through a circle forming a arc segment, the two ends of chord is formed by subtending a isosecelos triangle from circle center. i know the length of the chord, and distance from circle center, angle of arc to circle center. i want to divide the chord at equal intervals and find the distance between the chord and arc perpendicular to the chord. how can i achieve that. do i have to find the equation of arc and use sampling to get the distance between chord and arc at various intervals or any other esy solution.

thanks in advance

Re: how to find distance between chord and arc from any chor

Hi Murugan,
I find the question very confusing please attach a diagram along with the question so that I can help you.

Kalyan.

Hi Muruga,

In catesian coordinates, move the center of the circle as to get the first point of chord in the x=0, y=0. computing "y" from the resultin equation gives you your distance.
Hope this helps

Re: how to find distance between chord and arc from any chor

i got the answer from mr.math and it worked well

Formula for Laying Out an Arc

It gives the formula

y = sqrt(r^2 - x^2) - r + h

where r is the radius of the arc, h is the maximum height of the arc
(distance from the center of the arc to the chord), and x is the
distance along the chord from the center of the chord. You can select
a set of x values for equidistant points along the chord, use the
formula to find the y value for each point, then measure off the y
value perpendicular to the chord to find a point on the arc.
