hi there !!

i've designed a microstrip patch antenna having a gain 4.203 dBi, directivity 7.6 dBi, return loss -33.9 dBi, centre frequency 2.668 GHz,
i want to enhance the gain a bit more, what should i do???

Re: how to enhabce microstrip patch antenna gain

Try adding a superstrate(a substrate) placed on top of the patch antenna. The superstrate preferably has to be thin with a high Dk.

Re: how to enhabce microstrip patch antenna gain

- What subtrate are you using? Can you use substrate with lower loss (loss tangent)?
- You can try to increase the width of the antenna.
- Try to increase the height of the substrate.

Hi
what about if you use cavity-backed technique. this will prevent back lobe radiation and hence increase the antenna gain unless you want the back radiation.

Interesting. And what is cavity depth for cavity-backed technique? Quarterwave in air?

how about adding dielectric lenses above each patch? it must give better directivity

check this article " D. Sievenpiper, H. P. Hsu, “Low-profile cavity-backed crossed-slot antenna with a single-probe feed designed for 2.34-GHz satellite radio applications," IEEE Transactions on Antenna and Propagation, vol. 52, mo. 3, pp. 873-879, March 2004..""

it includes good info related to your inquire
regards

You can also try to use a parasitic patch over your own to enhance the gain.
