I have a 12V 4.5Ah lead acid battery.

I needed to discharge it so I can test charge it.

I think I can just put a resistor across the terminals with 1ohm, 2W and it should discharge at in 2 hours?

Is this even correct and safe? Don't want to cause a short circuit...

What other simple ways to discharge a lead acid safely?

You may want to check your calculations. Resistance value and power rating are very wrong.

Discharge through a resistor (of sufficient rating) is basically O.K. Complete discharge of the battery should be avoided,
you better think about stopping the discharge at a particular voltage level.

i think that connecting more than devices or ellements that absorb much power would be usefull u can run amotor ,lamp or any other device
