how to determine the capacitance in the charge pump?

Hi:

I am going to design a 2-stage doubler-based charge pump with 1.5v input, 3v and 1.5mA output. clock freq is around 200Mhz.

I wonder if there is any methodology on how to find a proper pumping capacitance in each pump stage? should it be based on efficiency or area?

It all depends on your constraints!! If you don't have an area limitation then you should care about efficiency, ripple, etc. Know ,if you have an area constraint you will need to sacrifice some efficiency to meet your specs.

There's a book called "Charge Pump Circuit Design" by Feng Pan. Chapter 8 has a section about Area vs. Performance. Maybe you should take a look at it.
