hi ...
i need suggestion how to design dual resonance microstrip patch antenna.my frequency is 1.8 to 2.2.I already try to do antenna from IEEE journal but the main problem in my design is i dont how to vary systematically or tune to get good result. It there have any procedure for tuning to determine optimal height, patch size (L,W),size of probe feed...plz ..i hope u can guide me
Firstly, u can try to design a standard microstrip antenna like circular or rectangular. Then u can modify this antenna until get the desired frequency. It is need iteration process. You should spent your time to do this. But you can save your time if you have a fast microwave simulator.
I have some paper about dual band antenna. If you want, I can share it here.
Try to get the book: "compact and broadband microstrip antennas" from Kin-Lu Wong.
When you take an arbitrary antenna that is close to what you want, but you don't know why it works, it is difficult to modify it to suit your needs.
Antennas with multiple resonances (to increase useful bandwidth) are the difficult ones. The book may give you some design ideas and insight into antenna theory to reduce the required iterative steps.
When you are allowed to add some lumped components, you can get the second resonance with an LC circuit. In fact your antenna becomes a band pass filter with 2 resonators where only one resonator radiates. It increases the bandwidth with about factor 2.4 with respect to a single patch.

I have a file that will help you design a patch antenna but with coax feed. If you need it, let me know your email address. (Better drop your email as PM to me)
