How to decide the TIME for calculating energy for designing a dc energymeter?

IM going to design dc energymeterfor solar PV using dsPIC

how the time to be decide for energy measurement.

1)im planning to take 10SAMPLES of V&I in 1sec simultnsly.so time(t) is 1sec.after 1min the accumulated energy value dsply in the LCD.
so how to display the value of V&I till 1min in LCD??

2)By giving t as sampling&conversion time is other option i think..is it write??

any other suggestion??
