How to create parts in OrCAD Layout?

Hi,
I am a newbie at orcad layout. As far as the creation of parts is the following correct.
If I draw a symbol with 24 pins and name the pins then the footprint must also have the same pad names or it wont work.

OR

If I name the symbol pins and also keep them numbered, and create a footprint that is numbered will the symbol match to to the footprint?

I am working through the manuals but I need to get up and running fast, so a simple answer will be fine.

Yes. You make a schematic symbol and number the pins. The pins in all of the standard footprints are automatically numbered. When you assign a footptint to the symbol, OrCAD maps the pins to the pads by their number.
