Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to convert schematic design n PCB design from Protel 2004 to Protel 99SE?

save each PCB and sch file to a lower version, for example PCB 2.8 ASCII, then re-import to a protel 99 SE DDB file.

The easiest and best way is to use the built in functions of Pr0tel2004. If you look at the "File" menu, you will see "Save Copy as". When the window opens, click on the file type, and you will see "Schematic Binary 4.0" as one of the choices. Pr0tel99SE was Version 4.0 (and Pr0tel98 was Version 3.0, etc).

File>Save Copy As>Schematic Binary 4.0 (*.sch).

If you do as suggested by EZPCB you may have to do a lot of manual repair. There have been many enhancements, and changes, since version 2.8 (a 16 bit program). If you save to that very old format, you will lose all of those enhanced features. You will lose less by going directly back to Version 4.0 format from Version 5.0 (Pr0tel2004).

Hi House_Cat,

After following your instructions, I suceeded in converting the schematic design from Protel 2004 to 99SE. However, I failed to convert the PCB file using the same method: save as "PCB 4.0 Binary file" . Protel99se cannot open the unknown file. Plz help~~~ Thx!!!

save as PCB 3.0 or lower version.

This indicates that you may have accidently pointed 99SE at the wrong file, or you may have just gotten a damaged copy. Saving the file as 4.0 format does work just fine - I do it regularly without problem.

Try it again. If it still doesn't work for you, zip your 2004 file and attach it to a PM to me. I'll save a copy for you in 99Se format, and send it back within a couple of minutes of receipt.
