Hi,
In our project we need to control a robot with a DSP C2000 (its a 2812).
The robot input is RS232.

We succeed to use the two UARTs (the SCI as they called in our DSP) and make a LoopBack between the two of them.

Now we need to connect the DSP to RS232 - have any one here done something like that in the past?
How can we do it?

Re: DSP and RS232

you need to connect to pc or another micro?

Re: DSP and RS232

To another micro, the robot controler. But it use RS232 protocol

DSP and RS232

RS232 is a simple protocol use max 232 from MAXIM or higher which suits yur needs.
check initially with a null modem configuration.
RS 232 is just negative logic with higher voltage values.like +12 for a 0 and -12 for 1.

Re: DSP and RS232

OK, we will check this out.

Which port on the DSP to use for the communication? the SCI?

DSP and RS232

Hey
u need a connector a RS232 cable(u get a cable with two connectorsa at each end available)use pin numbers 2 3 and 5. the last one i am not sure of.
where 2->Tx 3->Rx and 5 ground.on the other side of the cable u have 2->Rx 3->Tx and 5 ground as they look like complementary Tx->Rx and Rx->TX it is called a null modem configuration.
note that u aren't using any handshake signals ere.if u want u can use them if ur target interface supports it.
and the ports as Uno said both are the same and it doesn't matter unless u configure it in your system as wat port u r using.

try maxim.co in tat MAX 232 datasheet u will get good info.

cheers

Re: DSP and RS232

We already built a small board with MAX232. 10X

I know SCI1 and SCI2 are the same. We need to use one of them, right? not the McBSP....?
