Modem connection

Is it possible to connect two modems directly together, linkup and tranfer data. If so, then how? The one PC runs WinXP and the other Win98.

Re: Modem connection

Another question first:

Why do you want to use "modes" to connect to PC's with plain wires?
Why not use RS232 port without modems????

If you want/need to use a modem in between and it should be transparent to WinXP/95: I just doesn't work if you connect the modems together with 2 wires...

The modem software requires that you get a "free" tone and after that you dial a number...the other side requires a ringing voltage to detect a call...

But I'm sure you can write own software to control your modems...just needs at least some 48V DC voltage for feeding the circuits....

I just don't see the point trying to making it complicated here (o;
