As u hv asked .... atfirst ur GUI may be of two types - only commanding and status recv unit or only status recv unit while master controller are based to some PPC's - then your GUI baudrate should exactly match with your controller , and parity , bit present data etc .
ur GUI may be Touch pad type or a simple OS based LCD panel with PB's or Switches , If u r going to choose any Touch pad GUI then u have to take care is it of capacitor type charge storer or a simple LCD with two way touch sensor pad .u have to check that ur
1.GUI is serial comm connectable or not
2.It's refresh rate is enough for ur RTOS controller
3.for AI u have to chk out it is having PS2 facilities or not
4.High speed data receiving trigger is possible or not
5.reliable or not , etc
