Hi,

I had a very simple question regarding power consumption calculations of an amplifier.

When the power consumption of an amplifier is stated in a data sheet how is it calculated?

Is it Irms ( drawn by the circuit) multiplied by supply voltage?

Thanks

What I do to measure (and I`m guessing this is the most common way) is put a 1 (or 10 or 100) ohm resistor inline with the Vdd power
supply and measure the current through it and use the power equation.

for power consumption calculation, you can take the average of the current into the amplifier supply pin (use a 0V vdc in series with that pin) and multiply by your voltage supply.
