Hi,

If i have a microstrip line with dimension W and L, (L>W). The substrate is of height H and dielectric constatnt Er ( Hence an effective dielectric constant Eeff can be calculated).

This segment of microstrip line should resonate at certain frequency right?

So I have 2 questions:
(1) How to calculate/estimate the resonate frequency? Is it F=0.5*c/sqrt(Eeff)/L ?
(2) How to find the resonate freq through simulation, by HFSS / Sonnet etc?

Thanks!

Microstrip Resonator

maybe refer to the book of micro strip antenna antennas which was written by Drs. Bahl. T. and Bhartia, you can look for it in the site of ebooksclub.

Re: Microstrip Resonator

(1) For a segment of microstrip line with two open-circuited ends, it will resonate when its length is half wavelength; For a segment of microstrip line with one open-circuited end and one short-circuited end, it will resonate when its length is quarter wavelength;

(2) you can use two addtional segments of microstrip line as the input/output to excite the resonant microstrip line by the aperture coupling. And then you can get the resonant frequency from the S21.
