You should take a reference device that has better precision compared to the one you want to calibrate.
For automated calibration you should use some PC based A/D device (Like this one we use in our manufacturing process:
SUB-20 Multi Interface USB Adapter USB to I2C SPI GPIO RS232 RS485 Ir. It has 8 A/D channels and PWM output for reference signal)
If you are talking about industrial devices there is a special certificated laboratories witch performs calibration and certification.
What exactly do you want to calibrate and for what precision?
