how many of you have used RS485 in your projects and how

Hi i'm studying rs485 i took example from microc ...i built an long range adc voltmeter and a ds18s20 long range thermometer working fine...the only little prob i cant send more than 3 bits of data...i use 2 easypic board easypic5 and easypic7 i built and use 2 max485 external board ...working very fine...put two lcd 1 on master and 1 on the slave side...i can see data transfer...i'm searching now about 485...if it's possible to send more than 3 bit of data...next week i'll try canbus...i built 2 mcp2551 little board for connect to on my easypic board ...

I used it in network and peer to peer communication
It's like rs422 plus using a tristate control to build a network with a talker to organize the network
