Im AWGN channel, matched filter is used to maximize the SNR, where the impulse response of the filter is a scaled- time-reversed- and delayed version of the pulse signal. But if we know the transmitted pulse signal, there is no need for demodulation, right? Then, how is matched filter implemented practically?
Hi saeddawoud,
The matched filter impulse response is scaled- time-reversed- and delayed version of the underlying "PULSE SHAPE THAT IS BEING TRANSMITTED".
The transmitted sequence may be 110010 but the pulse shape of each bit may be a Gaussian pulse shape or an NRZ signaling pulse or cosine pulse or a triangular pulse.
The matched filter is designed using the underlying pulse shape and not the entire transmitted sequence.
