Hi All,

Can anyone tell me how a range finder using laser works? Is there any working project around for reference. Thank you.

Regards

Laser Range Finder

I think the laser in a rangefinder is only for pointing purpose. The range is measured by ultrasonic transceiver by measuring the time sound takes to travel to and fro.

that one is just to detect presence of object and no range info is provided .

Re: Laser Range Finder

Yes , right , laser is used for pointing. But I don think that sound is used. it is very difficult to focus sound to pointed target.Range is calculated from reflecting angle of laser beams.

I saw an sample project ( laser range finder ) on Servo MagazineBut i am not sure the number of issue.Simple range finder made with laser pointer and a webcam.

You can download servomagazin from www.elektrotekno.com site under ebooks section.

Re: Laser Range Finder

yes lasers are used for ranging also

the method is to send a phase locking data carrier and measure
the minute differance in reply timings....
using regenarative sample and hold

as a point to note
these devices are class 2 laser products
military... in nature
so i think your hopefull to find circuits

and maybe if you do some mib will arrive with a flashy thing
