costas loop for carrier recovery

hi friends,
can anyone give me a idea what a costas loop is.I am implementing the carrier recovery part for BPSK modulation on TMS320C6713 dsp processor using c language.so how does a costas loop help in implementing the demodulator part.

costas loop

This method was devised about 50 years ago for demodulating analog DSBSC signals. It is a method of processing the incoming signal with a phase locked loop.

**broken link removed** is an article on it.

Re: what is a costas loop

hi..
well costas loop basically used for "carrier recovery" of the incoming modulated signal on the receiver side.it has NCO (numerical control oscillator) which functions as a PLL to capture the incoming signal....
so the basic purpose of COSTAS LOOP is CARRIER RECOVERY....

check any communication system book for details
