as i hv seen , if i turn off the power of a digital clock & after few time i turn on
then the time doesn't goes to it's default value/ or any thing other ....it just show the correct time ................Whats the mechanism behind it ??

Battery backup is another option. I had one like that a long time ago, it was a real lifesaver if the power went out overnight.

if i use battery back up then i need to use such a back up that dont need to charge frequently
