This is a good forum, but the enforcement of "no bumping" seems rather draconian to me. I bumped a topic I had started after it hadn't gotten any responses in over a month, and had my hand slapped for that. What was I supposed to do instead?
More recently, I posted to an old topic (~1 year old) that mostly covered my question, but I wanted to ask a small side question about the topic and felt it made more sense to group it with that question, instead of posting a new question. I once again got my hand slapped for that.
What is the point of this? I mean, sure, people that bump their posts every 12 hours are obnoxious. But bringing back a month old topic, or a year old topic?
edit: and now I'm realizing that I misunderstood what the OP meant by "promoting". Oops!
yes, i think it was a useful feature.
I only used it when my project at work stalled (couldnt deliver the product in time) because I didnt have a solution to a problem and asked about it here.
