How can I Test serial cable and serial port?

Re: serial port

Hi,
For serial cable, use a cable test jig with a shift register rotating a 1 on one side and on the other side a sequenced LEds to show the correctness of wiring. For port testing, use a loopback test connector and a baud rate outpin facility. Using software, test for all loopback and by sending out AAh or 55h continuously, you can check the baud rate with a counter.

Re: serial port

Programs like hyperterminal (if u are using windows) can be used send particular char that can be captured via osciloscope triggering capture. This should show that the cable and ports are working fine.

Perhaps u can share with us what are u trying to test?

serial port

Use an Port monotor tool.
