how can i start to learn nios?

hi,i am a student.i want to learn nios2,but i do not know much about this kind of things.how can i get to start? i know a little about vhdl and verilog. and i find some handbooks from altera web. can i learn nios well if i get these handbooks?

the only way is to get the software get evaluatin kit, and examples from altera.
you can get nios directly from altera ftp.

you can also try to check xilinx edk alternative
