How can I specify the B C E pin of a pnp or npn transistor?

Hi everybody, I have a question for you. How can I specify which is the B C E pin of a pnp or npn Transistor, just using a simple VOM?

In voltmeter thier is a socket in which insert ur transistor
if emitter & collector is negative wrt base then it is npn otherwise it is pnp
 

BJT question.

The forward bias resistance between C & B is higher than that between E & B
