What I think you are asking is; what is the difference between Hierarchical and PCB symbol in Design Capture?
Hierarchical is the top level part of a symbol. Pin numbers are not shown here. Below this part would be the PCB symbol or the physical symbol. One use of this scheme is to enable engineer/designer to easily change pinouts of parts such as FPGA's. Or to get a more clear logical view of schematic.
FYI: It is necessary to use a Hierarchical schematic if you are using IO designer.
