Hi! How do i interface an mp3 player with a microcontroller?

Hi everyone! This is my first time to post here! :smile:

Anyway, does anyone know how i can control an mp3 player using a microcontroller? This is for our thesis. The plan is to use a PIC16F877A MCU to trigger the mp3 player in order to play the recorded sound. How will i actually do this?? :?:
