I was wondering is anyone can assistme in building a circuit that would take the voltage from 3 LED's and have it drive 8 RGB single LEDS as extended lighting.

This origional RGB Lighting is from a Gauge Cluster background lighting that use 3 LEDs (Reb, Blue, Green) to make 127 different colors. I want to extend the colors to additional RGB LED's in the Car as Ambient Lighting.

I was able to tap into the Dash LEDs and drive one RGB LED external but one set of the dash LEDs dim a bit.

A view of the LEDs in the cluster

Here is a schematic I am working on
I am not sure how the existing Dash LEDs are Driven, but I am assuming it's a chip on the cluster.

Here is a video of the Dash Lights and the RGB LED on the Left side

use a driver IC like ULN2003 cheap and easily available

Thanks for the reply.

will this allow for the varying voltage of each color?
I will pick up a few and give it a try.

ie to create the color Purple

Red @ .45v
Green @ .0v
Blue @ .89v

but to create white all LED's at full brightness.
I will get actual voltage for each step and post.

yes it's driver and i use it many times fro this type of application

Giving it a try this week.

I found an older 2003 in my parts bin, I will test with it until my order get in from Digikey.
