Hi,
My hand held 240v fluorescent lamp start to arc & smoke today...I switched it off & took it to bits to have a look & found that this component had let go.

Can you tell me what it is please.....(I'm thinking some sort of Capacitor)

Thanks, jj.

its non-polar AC Capacitor, value = 2.2 µf , 250VAC,
replace it with a new one,

Thanks for that...I'll take a look around to find one.

Hi,
Have had a look at Maplins & RS components but can't seem to find anything like this component.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of one in the UK?

The dimensions of it are approx:
Length - 22mm
Height - 10mm
Depth - 14mm

Cheers.

man don't go for dimensions, make or colour it doesn't matter, its a very common part u can get it from any component shop,
u just need a 2.2µf, 250VAC polyester capacitor thatz it ....

Yeah but it has to fit in the space of the old one...the ones I can find are a lot bigger.

Cheers.

Hi,
I came across this component & wondered if someone could tell me the value of it as I can't figure it out.

It was inside a 250v kettle so I guess it's rated at that voltage, it fed 2 LED's so the kettle lit up when in use.

I don't suppose it could be used to replace the one in my post above could it?

Thanks.

Not a chance.

It's a completely different animal. A 7,000 Ohm 5 Watt power resistor. Don't even think of trying it!

Farnell do these parts which will work but you will have to bend the legs to fit the board:

1413844 and 1413851 look them up on https://uk.farnell.com

Thanks for that....I did think it may be a resistor but I wasn't sure.

Oh well back to the drawing board......

Cheers.

Added after 2 minutes:

Hi,
just noticed your edit & the caps you recomended, unfortunatly both of these are to big to fit in the space I have.

The maximum approx size I could use would be:
Height - 17mm
Length - 25mm
Depth - 8mm

Cheers.
