help with keypad

Hi.. can anyone please help me with code for keypad reading... Our proffesor gave us a task to read which key is pressed and then show a code on LED's.. the seond part is easy but the first one gets harder... I know that it is easier when all 8 pins from 4x4 keypad are connected to controller but professor gave us a circuit whererows are connected to controller through a demultiplexor, so only one of the rows have a low signal... I do not know how to scan the keypad.. please help me someone
