help me wid IR sensor connect with microcontroller. i need circuit

i m a student n my project is measuring of heartbeat counting through IR sensor. i m unable to understand how to monitor or count heartbeat. through microcontroller and display segment or through PC...
is it possible to show the graphic phenomenon of heartbeat on pc?

you need to know how IR sensor works, how to program microcontroller first. The other parts that you need to know is the heartbeat. Most probably, you would use the IR sensor where your vein is towards the surface of the skin.

thank u for your reply, my sensor which m planning to design is that it consists of IR LED as source of light and a match photo transistor will be used for detecting the light. The sensor and the transmitter will be in the reflective mode in the probe. The photo sensor will detect the light, which will be back scattered from the tissue of the skin. its basically a finger sensor.
Can u direct me further. i m unable to understand how to use microcontroller for counting of heartbeat. i need the codes for it of 8051 µc
