Help me understand the digital modulation/demodulation

im new to this board.
i heard this is a useful board im trying here now.
i new to company and assigned work on the digital modulation /demodulation.
in a telecommunication project
can any one tellme what books i have to follow first to understand basic analysation and design of those modules. i have to work with verilog after some gain of knowledge theoritically,
any one tell me how to start my work in best way

i think you should start with study about fundamental theory for digital communications. proakis is a comprehensive book for this work. karlson is applicable and it is more simple than proakis.

no. the book name is digital communications4th edition.
5th edition is more better than 4th edition but it does not in the web.

and another book is taub and shiclling..
